Volumes Lab has a hyperbaric oxygen chamber at Churruca 5, in the centre of Madrid.
This is what a session involves, how to prepare and how to book one.
A hyperbaric chamber is a pressurised chamber. Inside it, the air pressure is raised above normal atmospheric pressure while you breathe high concentration oxygen.
Pressure is measured in atmospheres absolute (ATA). At sea level you are at 1.0 ATA. A session at Volumes Lab runs at 2.0 ATA, with 95% pure oxygen.
The increased pressure allows more oxygen to dissolve into your blood and temporarily increases oxygen delivery to tissues.
Hyperbaric oxygen is used in medicine for specific clinical indications. At Volumes Lab, each session gives you a controlled exposure to increased pressure and oxygen.
A session lasts 60 minutes. The chamber is brought up to pressure gradually, held at 2.0 ATA and brought back down at the end.
As the pressure changes you will feel it in your ears, as you would on a plane. Swallowing or yawning helps to equalise.
Eat normally and arrive hydrated.
Do not drink alcohol before the session.
Avoid attending with a cold, a blocked nose or significant sinus congestion, because pressure equalisation may be difficult.
Wear comfortable clothing.
Sessions can be booked one at a time or in packs of 5 and 10, which bring the price per session down.
